About the Menstrual Practice Needs Questionnaire (MPNS-36)
The Menstrual Practice Needs Questionnaire (MPNS-36), is a set of 36 questions that work together to measure your menstrual experience. The scale focuses on your experience of your last menstrual period and captures your experience and practices undertaken, and environments used to mange your menses. You will be asked about your perceptions of comfort, satisfaction, adequacy, reliability as well as any worries or concerns you may have had during your last menstrual period.
The scale provides a quantitative (number) estimate of the extent your needs are being met and helps you determine if you have any gaps to having a more positive experience in managing your menstruation. The higher the score, the more positive experience with no unmet needs.
Menstrual needs and practices can vary by context and the environmental settings. There is no 'Right' or 'Wrong' answer ... No one will be judging you. Each one of us is unique and deserves products that make us feel great and give confidence. As your needs change from one day to the next, your preferred products may also vary for length, thickness and absorbency.
Areas covered in the questionnaire:
- Material and home environment needs
- Material reliability concerns
- Transport and school/work environment needs
- Change and disposal insecurity
- Reuse Insecurity
- Reuse needs
Menstrual materials
Throughout the survey the term "menstrual materials" is a way to refer to all the different materials or products that may be used to collect or absorb menstrual blood. It is recognized that women and girls likely use more than one material during a single period, as specific needs can change even within a single cycle of an individual. The questions in the survey do not imply the use of only a single material or that a certain 'product' is superior.
